The Art of Problem Solving Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation dedicated to promoting and providing opportunities to explore and experience mathematical problem solving among middle and high school students in the United States. The Foundation was formed in 2004 by AoPS Incorporated.

The purposes of The Art of Problem Solving Foundation include:

  • Administering the USA Mathematical Talent Search, a math contest for US Citizens and Residents that emphasizes research and in-depth thinking.
  • Promoting mathematical problem solving for middle and high school students.
  • Encouraging students to learn mathematical writing.

In addition to the USA Mathematical Talent Search, the Art of Problem Solving Foundation supports local efforts devoted to problem solving education. The Art of Problem Solving Foundation launched a new program to help build math teams in San Diego area schools in 2006. This is a pilot program the Foundation hopes to spread to more communities in the future.
